Northland Community College, also known as Northland Community and Technical College or simply NCTC, is a 2 year community college. The college has campuses located in Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks, both in the state of Minnesota. These two campus locations serve more than 4,000 part-time and-full time students. The school is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
Northland Community was first established in 1949. The school started out when the Minnesota State Board of Education approved a vocational school for the Thief River Falls area. The college would then move to its current location and combine with two other colleges. The school first merged with the River Falls State Junior college then later on with the East Grand Forks satellite campus of the Northwest Technical College. Each of the former schools had been known to serve the needs of their local community. The names of the two colleges changed several times throughout their history.
There are several programs offered by the NCTC. The school offers Career and Technical programs, which are designed for students who want to complete their degrees in a short amount of time and join the workforce as soon as possible. There are also Liberal Arts & Transfer programs. These programs offer associate degrees that will allow students to transfer and continue their education with other colleges and universities. The school also offers Online Programs, which offers several accredited online degree college programs that will help students reach their goal through distance learning.
The main campus of NCTC also features a student-operated radio station. They broadcast as KSRQ on Pioneer 90.1 FM. The station is affiliated with Independent Public Radio. The college is also competes in NJCAA Division III athletics. The school colors are red and blue and the school nicknames are the Pioneers.
